Collection

We collect the bin on the agreed day but if you finish your project earlier than expected, or need to delay your pick up – just give us a call so we can accommodate an early pick up or arrange an extension. We are extremely flexible with pick-up arrangements or ongoing staggered waste removal.

When the bin is collected, it’s taken to the recycling centres where it is weighed.

The skip hire price includes a weight allowance for your chosen waste type, but if the bin exceeds this limit, any additional weight will be billed separately.

If you are unsure whether your access is sufficient, you can send a photo of the access area when booking. This helps us assess the situation and avoid failed deliveries. For larger hook lift bins, even more space is required for truck manoeuvring, while crane-lifted bins provide a solution for sites with no truck access by being lifted over fences, buildings, or retaining walls.

By preparing your site according to these access requirements, you help us deliver your skip bin smoothly and on time, ensuring your waste removal project proceeds without unnecessary interruptions.

Delivery, Access And Placement

  • Clear length The length of the space available for the bin is important. For smaller bins like the 2m³ or 3m³, you need approximately 1.8 metres of clear length to accommodate the bin. Larger bins such as the 4m³ or 6m³ require about 3.6 metres, while the largest 10m³ bin needs around 4.5 metres of clear length. Additionally, the delivery truck requires 2.5m width and extra room in front of the bin location to reverse safely and set the bin down.
  • Clear width Skip bins typically have a width of 1.5 metres. A standard driveway width is generally sufficient, but if your driveway is narrowed by structures such as retaining walls, garden beds, or parked vehicles, it may not provide enough space for the bin and delivery truck to operate safely.
  • Overhead clearance When placing the bin, the truck’s lifting arm raises the bin high above the truck’s height. Overhead obstacles like low-hanging power lines, verandah roofs, carport beams, awnings, or tree branches can obstruct the delivery and prevent the bin from being positioned correctly. It is essential to check for and clear any overhead obstructions before delivery.
  • Level, firm ground The bin must be placed on stable, level ground to support its weight when full. Ideal surfaces include concrete, asphalt, or compacted gravel. Soft surfaces such as lawns, loose sand, garden beds, wet soil, or steep driveways are usually unsuitable because the heavy bin and delivery truck can become stuck or cause damage.
  • Exact placement Clearly mark the exact spot where you want the bin placed. Remove any vehicles, open gates, and clear the area before the delivery window. If someone else will be on-site to receive the bin, ensure they know the designated location.
Not sure the truck will fit? Give us a call before you book. Call 0414 375 375

Hire Period, Extensions And Bin Swaps

Standard hire lasts for 7 days and is included in the price, starting from the day the bin is delivered. If you need the bin for a longer period, simply call us before the scheduled collection date to arrange an extension. Longer hires are available upon request and may incur a surcharge depending on the bin size. Arranging this in advance also helps us avoid unnecessary collection trips and keeps your project on track.

  • 7 days standardIncluded on every bin, from the day it lands. Nothing to arrange.
  • Need it longerCall before the collection date. Extended hire periods are available and may attract an extra fee.
  • Finished earlyCall and we will collect sooner where the run allows.
  • Bin swapsA fresh empty bin in the same position — standard on construction sites.

Loading Rules And Safety

Skip bins cannot be filled above the rim. An overfilled bin cannot legally be transported and will not be collected, and the truck has to leave empty when it happens.

Load the heavy material first and spread it across the floor rather than piling it at one end, then place light waste on top for a safer, more even load. Break down bulky items such as furniture, pallets and cabinetry before they go in, because a broken-down load fits far more into the same space. Distinct waste types require specific bins for appropriate disposal.

  • Fill to the rim onlyAn overfilled bin cannot legally be transported and will not be collected.
  • Heavy material firstSpread it across the floor, then place light waste on top.
  • Break bulky items downFurniture, pallets and cabinetry. A broken-down load fits far more in.
  • Keep the waste type cleanEach waste type needs its own bin to be disposed of at the right rate.
  • Do not move the binThe position is set for the collection as well as the delivery.
The hirer is responsible for everything in the bin, regardless of who put it there — so ensure anyone else loading it is aware of what can and can't go in the bin. Waste types

local council Permits for Placing A skip Bin On The Street

A bin sitting entirely on your own property does not need a permit. A bin sitting outside your property boundary does. That includes the footpath, the nature strip, the kerb and the road.

In Newcastle and Lake Macquarie a council permit is required for placement outside the boundary. Our staff organise it for you — tell us at the time of booking that the bin cannot go on private property and we handle the application rather than leaving it with you.

Other councils across the Hunter set their own rules and their own fees, so tell us the suburb and the intended position and we will confirm what applies. Allow time for this, because a permit is not instant and it has to be in place before the bin is delivered.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions we get every week — sizes, hire periods, permits, payment and what you can put in a bin.

For a general household cleanout, a 3m³ skip bin suits most homes. It holds around 12 wheelie bins of material, which covers furniture, boxes and general clutter from several rooms. Step up to a 6m³ if you are clearing a full garage or stripping more than one room at once.

The price depends on the bin size, the waste type, the weight and your region. Every bin is charged as a hire fee plus tipping fees, with tipping included up to a set weight. Call 0414 375 375 to check pricing and book.

Standard hire is 7 days from delivery and it is included in the price. Longer hire is available on request may attract an additional charge. Call before the collection date if you need more time, and call if you finish early and want it collected sooner.

Yes, if any part of the bin sits outside your property boundary, including the footpath, nature strip or road. In Newcastle and Lake Macquarie the permit fee is $132.00 and our staff organise it for you. A bin sitting entirely on private property does not need a permit.

One cubic metre holds roughly four standard 240L wheelie bins when loosely packed. On that basis a 2m³ bin takes about eight wheelie bin loads, a 4m³ takes about 16, a 6m³ takes about 25 and a 10m³ takes about 41. Compacting the load will improve those numbers.

Concrete, bricks, tiles, pavers, soil and sand are heavy waste. They reach a bin’s weight allowance long before they fill it. Book them as their own waste type rather than mixing them into general waste — mixing heavy material into a general bin re-costs the whole load and removes the included weight allowance.

Our most-hired bins are the 3m³ at 1.8m × 1.5m × 1.2m, the 4m³ at 3.6m × 1.5m × 0.9m and the 6m³ at 3.6m × 1.5m × 1.2m, given as length by width by height. Allow extra clearance beyond these figures for the truck to place and lift the bin.

Level, firm ground on your own property is best, with clear overhead space and no low power lines or branches. Leave room for the truck to reverse in and lift the bin off. If the only option is the footpath or the road, tell us at booking and we will arrange the council permit.

Call us and we will arrange a swap or deliver a second bin. A second delivery means a second hire charge, so booking one size larger at the start is usually cheaper. If you are unsure when you book, describe the job and we will recommend the size.

Bins are delivered within 24 hours of booking across our service area. Give us the suburb, the size and the waste type when you call, and confirm that the access is clear on the day. Same-day delivery is often possible, so ask when you book.
