One cubic metre is roughly one heaped 6×4 box trailer load, or four 240L wheelie bins. A 3m³ skip bin holds about three of those trailer loads, or twelve wheelie bins. This capacity is typically enough for small to medium projects like an ensuite bathroom strip-out, a garage tidy, or a full-room declutter. For example, it could accommodate a few pieces of small furniture, plus a mattress and several bags of waste making it ideal for small-medium sized residential cleanups.
The 3m³ is the bin we send out most often. It is the popular choice for residential projects, because it balances real capacity against a footprint that still fits a normal driveway. It is ideal for a small ensuite bathroom renovation, and it suits a small household cleanout where you work through one room at a time.
Having a bin on site also keeps the job tidy. Debris goes straight into the skip instead of piling up in the yard, which makes the work area safer for everyone on it. A 3m³ skip bin is the most cost effective for minor projects.
Declare these when you book so we can quote them properly.
We are strictly unable to take asbestos or fibro in a standard bin. Hazardous material of that kind needs specialised disposal, so it is handled by prior arrangement only. We can supply a separate bin for it, please contact us.
Fill it right up to the rim, but no higher. How you pack the load determines whether everything fits and if the bin can be collected on schedule.
Most driveways give us easy access for this size. We need level, firm ground, about 2.5m of clear width, and nothing low overhead at the drop point. Measure your access to ensure the truck will fit, not just the bin. The bin is 1.50m wide, but the truck that delivers it is 2.50m, and the driver needs extra space beside it to operate the controls. Ensure there are no powerlines or low-hanging branches.
Tell us the location on your property when you book, so we can ensure the truck can reach it. If you are not certain it will fit, call us and describe the site. We would rather sort it out on the phone than turn up and find we cannot place the bin.
The measurements are 1.80m long, 1.50m wide and 1.20m high. Allow a bit more room than that on site. The truck needs space in front to reverse in, and it lifts the bin above its own height to set it down.
Maximizing your savings when hiring a 3 cubic metre skip bin comes down to three key strategies. First, book a single clean waste stream instead of mixing different types of waste. Second, avoid placing heavy materials like dirt, bricks, and concrete in a general waste bin, as these quickly consume your weight allowance and can lead to costly excess charges. Instead, book these materials as their own dedicated waste type to save money and ensure proper disposal.
Third, make the most of the full 3 cubic metres of space you are paying for by breaking down bulky items and packing your waste efficiently. Properly sorting and compacting your waste not only helps you fit more into the bin but also reduces the likelihood of needing a second bin, which can significantly increase your overall cost.
If you’re unsure which waste stream your load falls under or how to best prepare your skip bin, we highly recommend contacting us before delivery. Our experienced team can provide tailored advice to help you optimize your bin usage and avoid unnecessary fees. We have a large range of skip bins available, from a 2m³ up to a 10m³, so there is an option either side of this size. Not every job is a perfect fit for a 3m³, and we would rather send the bin that suits the work.

The smallest drop-off skip, for single-room clean-ups, garage tidies and small garden loads. It fits limited-access properties and holds about eight 240L wheelie bins.

Skip bin size
Twice as long as the 3m³ but only 0.9m high, so heavy or bulky material loads over the side easily. Good for garage clearouts, landscaping and mixed renovation waste, and it still fits most driveways.

Sizing, pricing, weight and access — the questions we get asked about this bin.
A 3m³ skip bin starts from $425 for general or mixed waste. That includes a 500kg weight allowance, delivery, 7 days hire and collection. A concrete, brick and tile load also starts from $425 with tip fees included, and soil and clean fill starts from $525. Extra weight is billed per 100kg at the facility’s current rate.
About three heaped 6×4 box trailer loads, or twelve standard 240L wheelie bins. That is enough for a three-piece lounge suite plus a mattress and a few boxes, or the waste from a bathroom strip-out.
500kg of general waste is included in the hire price. Anything over that allowance is billed per 100kg at the waste facility’s current rate. If your load is heavy, such as soil, bricks or concrete, book it as its own waste type. That works out cheaper than paying excess weight on a mixed bin.
Yes, booked as a concrete, brick and tile load from $425 with tip fees included. The bin must hold nothing else, and pieces need to measure under 700mm × 700mm.
1.80m long, 1.50m wide and 1.20m high. Allow more clearance than that on site. The truck needs room in front to reverse in, and it lifts the bin well above its own height to place it. An average driveway works, provided there are no low power lines over the drop point.
All of our skip bins include 7 days hire. Longer hire is available on request and attracts a surcharge that depends on the bin size. Call us before your collection date rather than after it. If you finish early, call and we will pick it up sooner.
If the bin is on your own driveway or in your yard there is no permit needed. It is only when the bin has to stand on public land that one is required, so a kerbside spot, a nature strip or a footpath placement triggers it. In Newcastle and Lake Macquarie that permit costs $132.00, and our staff will lodge the application for you.
We are unable to take asbestos or fibro cement sheeting, food and liquids, chemicals, wet paint and paint tins, gas bottles, batteries, medical waste including sharps, polystyrene and nappies. Mattresses, tyres, fire extinguishers and stumps over 30cm attract an extra charge, so declare them when you book. You will find the full information on our waste types page.
Most skip hire bins go out within 24 hours of the booking being confirmed. Depending on the time you book your skip bin, we can offer same day delivery if you do not require a council permit. Tell us your suburb and we will confirm a delivery day on the spot. We deliver across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Cessnock, the Hunter Valley, Port Stephens and the Central Coast.
